API integration with no meetings

Can organizations perform API integration with no meetings?  Moving at agile, startup speed requires auto-operations (auto-ops) and reducing human negotiations.

At QCon, Paul Fremantle describes the evolution of integration and how API Management and Cloud Integration realizes Dion Hinchcliffe’s 2009 vision entitled Running Your SOA Like a Web Startup. In the vision statement, Dion posed five qualities that “invigorate the way we open up our IT systems for maximum value.”:

  1. Ease of Use
  2. Reporting/Billing
  3. Account Management
  4. Self-Service
  5. Developer Community
  6. Fair License

The qualities are baked into API Management products.  The products overcome traditional SOA infrastructure limitations and help create an environment where API publishers can design, publish, monitor, report usage, and monetize APIs (billing) without any Developer-Operations meetings.   API consumers can find, explore, self-service subscribe, and build API integration connections without API provider-consumer meetings.

Teams use an API management platform to simplify the API interface, standardize service level tiers, embed API governance best practices, and specify API security policies.  By creating an API factory environment, teams perform rapid API integration (without meetings), and increase their SOA investment value.
